62 The new extension of an elementary school with a kindergarten is situated in Trnava, Slovakia. This rectangular building features two above-ground storeys and a partial basement, along with a flat green roof. Access to the extension is through a connecting corridor from the existing school, leading to the dining room, bathroom facilities, and stairs to the second floor. The second floor houses 6 classrooms, a cabinet, sanitary facilities, and a green terrace. The basement and first-storey walls are constructed with masonry, while the ceilings combine prestressed reinforced concrete panels and steel delta beams supported by steel columns. The second-storey walls are made of timber, utilizing CLT panels for the external walls and an element system for internal walls. Timber joists form the ceiling of the second storey, and the stairs are made of monolithic reinforced concrete. To ensure structural integrity, SCIA Engineer played a crucial role. It facilitated the creation of a comprehensive finite element model, allowing for assessment of steel and timber elements, calculation of required concrete reinforcement, and examination of structural deformations. The software’s versatility in modelling structures composed of different materials proved immensely valuable. ARCHITECT Ing. arch. Andrej Zábrodský and Ing. arch.
