70 A bridge is being built as part of the Château-Gontier bypass. It consists of a large arch supported by seven tubular pillars. The road surface spans 297 m, positioned 25 m above the Mayenne River. The deck is 14.18 m wide, accommodating two lanes for vehicles and a 3 m lane for cyclists and pedestrians. The bridge’s steel weight is 1,750 tons. The soil stiffness plays a crucial role due to the bridge’s hyperstatic nature. Absences are used for supports, allowing for different stiffness parameters based on load types. The program incorporates plate elements to accurately calculate connections between the road surface, arch, and columns. SCIA Engineer software is used for bridge design and erection engineering. VIADUC OVER THE ‘LA MAYENNE’ RIVER Château-Gontier, France NOMINEE “The arch, which functions here as a full-fledged pedestrian bridge and as a support for the columns, which support the road bridge, makes it unique, special and challenging to calculate.”
