79 PEDESTRIAN BRIDGE ‘JOSEPHINE BAKER’ La Rochelle, France The Josephine Baker footbridge in La Rochelle train station is a vital link for travelers and local residents, improving accessibility and convenience. With a length of 245 m and a longest span of 48 m, it elegantly spans the railways at a height of 8 m. This complex project involved a hyperstatic fully embedded structure with intricate construction stages and varied soil stiffness in the concrete foundations. The irregular geometry required unique 3D shell models. SCIA Engineer was instrumental in overcoming these challenges, offering timesaving tools like selective DXF file import, personalized shortcuts, and efficient command validation. The software’s intersection calculator ensured accurate building and meshing. Additionally, SCIA Engineer excelled in calculating construction stages, 2nd order analysis, stability, seismic effects, and dynamic vibrations. These capabilities ensured a thorough assessment of the footbridge’s structural integrity. Overall, SCIA Engineer played a pivotal role in the successful realization of the Josephine Baker footbridge, optimizing modelling and providing robust analysis capabilities.
