88 The bridge is an arch bridge constructed using weathering (Corten) steel. It spans a total length of 42.2 m and has a width of 3.2 m. The walking surface is positioned 5.25 m above the river Benedenvliet. The working surface consists of a Corten steel plate, reinforced by vertical plates with a height of 100 mm spaced at intervals of 600 mm. Both the arches and supporting beams are made of Corten steel box-girders. To facilitate crane installation and immediate adjustment without the need for setting mortar to harden, the arch legs are equipped with special bearing devices comprising an M125 stainless steel threaded rod and suitable nuts. The connection between the arch and the foundation is established through a stainless-steel rocker bearing. For the calculation of the bridge’s details and overall design, the team utilized SCIA Engineer. Given the thinness of the plates, one of the main challenges involved optimizing the thicknesses of the various plates while ensuring their stability. Due to the restricted dimensions of the box girders, there is limited space available for the inclusion of stiffeners. Consequently, the focus was on avoiding plate buckling. To analyze the buckling modes, the team employed stability analysis of plates and only incorporated stiffeners in areas where they were absolutely necessary.
