91 2 CIVIL STRUCTURES BRIDGE MASARYK STREET Olomouc, Czech Republic The Masarykova Street bridge over the Morava River in the regional capital Olomouc (Czechia) replaces the former concrete structure. The bridge with skew connection consisting of two parallel structures has two unequal bays of 13.2 m and 38.3 m and consists of two road lanes, tram-way lines and pedestrian walkways. The length of the bridge is 63.3 m with 26.3 m width of the two structures. The structure is designed as a two-bay continuous arch structure with non-even arches with vertical tie-rods working as a modified Langer girder. Each bridge structure has been designed as two parallel arch girders consisting of welded box profiles with a one-side walkway cantilever. The unevenness of the bays and arches both in longitudinal and transversal directions with little respect to bridge loads and with the lowest rigidity over internal support made the design works also with longitudinal launching calculation more challenging than for common structure. The combined bridge loading, not very supported by EC, made the engineering office develop their loading schemes using SCIA Engineer load modules. The stability of the arches without horizontal bracings and with tram traffic dynamic effects were checked using SCIA Engineer during all design and execution stages. The wall/shell modelling was used for crucial details. ARCHITECT Doc. Ing. arch.
