93 FOOTBRIDGE IN UHPFRC Béziers, France The footbridge “Georgette Bousquet” in Béziers’ suburb integrates into a residential area. It features a slender UHPFRC arch filled with crushed expanded clay and gabion spandrel walls. With a 36 m main span and 3.5 m width, the bridge is a unified structure without bearings or expansion joints. Ramps made of UHPFRC prefabricated elements on gabions provide 4% slopes for accessibility. Due to the arch’s slenderness, horizontal reactions in the foundations are significant (around 300T at SLS). Micropiles support the abutments in the absence of rock and weak ground properties. SCIA Engineer verifies the arch against global buckling through nonlinear analyses, considering initial deformations homothetic to the first instability mode. A comprehensive shell model analyzes local and transversal behavior of the UHPRFRC structure. The software also assesses the structure’s response to seismic forces using spectral seismic analysis, considering its location in a medium seismic zone. SCIA Engineer ensures dynamic comfort by defining eigenmodes of the structure, following SETRA guidelines. Vibrations caused by pedestrians are kept within comfortable limits, thanks to the arch’s rigidity and substantial mass (including fill and gabions). Accelerations remain below the 1.0 m/s² threshold.
