Since its creation in Dunkirk in 1969, the
ATEIM
group
has
continuously
been
expanding to become the leader in its activ-
ity in the North of France. It acts today as
well at national as at international level.
Originally specialised in steel and petroleum
refineries industries, the group aims at
spreading its activities to other industry
branches such as
metallurgy, chemistry,
refining, automobile, rail and aircraft con-
struction, food and pharmacy.
Acquired
experience,
know-how
and
means allow the
Group to offer a
wide
range of services in the fields of engineer-
ing, technical and products studies and
communication.
Located on the
North Sea shores near
Dunkuerque, first French sea port,
midst a
major trading area with direct links to the
whole Europe.
The ATEIM GROUP is situated: 40 Km from
Calais, 45 Km from the Channel Tunnel, 100
Km from Lille-Lesquin Airport, 2 hours by
TGV
(high
speed
train)
from
the
Roissy/Charles De Gaulle airport.

The studies are
made in two parts and by
finite elements method. The roof is modelled
“as built” due to a dissymmetrical loading.
The first study concerns the roof of the tank
alone. The second study concerns the
assembly of the elements. The elements are
very flexible and required to be maintained
by prestressed cables, a calculation of an
element of the roof
maintained by pre-
stressed cables under its actual
weight was
made in order to ensure of the stability dur-
ing the assembly.
What makes this project interesting and
significant?
An “as built” modelling makes possible an
optimization in the thickness of sheets, this
means an economy that is appreciated by
the customer.
Why is it a special project?
This project is very interesting, because it
enabled us to gain roof proper weight and
it is the first time that we propose to the cus-
tomer this process of calculation in finite ele-
ments and assembly. The BA vault and
snow loads are very significant,
which
required a checking in stability calculation.
A calculation in second order was also nec-
essary to take into account the initial defor-
mations.
Use of ESA-Prima Win
Description of solved technical problems
with ESA-Prima Win:
In order to optimize the thickness of sheets
and to ensure a good stability, a calculation
in finite elements enabled us to locate the
most critical zones of the hull.
We studied a
system of assembly and welding in order to
reconstitute a homogeneous hull. The prof-
it with regard to the steel
weight is very sub-
stantial and as a consequence the customer
is very satisfied.
Description of your impression and experi-
ment of the use of ESA PRIMA WIN in the
realization of this project:
A very convivial utilisation of the software.
Modules used:
Finite elements: hulls and plate in second
order.
Stability calculation - Critical loads.
Object:
This calculation note is aiming at verifying
the steel elements part of the LNG contain-
er roof.
The roof is the member located on top of
the outer tank wall
which is sealing off the
content from the atmosphere (BS 7777 Part
1 § 3.2.11 definition)
Its main function in service is to act as a gas-
tight
membrane and to form the roof
vapour barrier.
During the erection, before the concrete
roof is being capable of carrying loads
hanged to it, the steel roof has to sustain the
suspended deck hanged to the framing
(with live loads), cold boxes,
monorails (with
inner tank & liner erection loads) and con-
crete reinforcement with live loads associat-
ed.
It is designed to act as a formwork for the
concrete roof during the first phase of the
pouring operation and to support its weight
up to a sufficient hardening of the concrete.
In case of concrete dome roof pouring in
one layer, the steel roof is design to receive
