Konstruktieburo J. van der Schaaf is a small
company specialized in small and medium
structures in wood, steel and concrete.
Our
working area concentrates in the northwest
of the Netherlands, but
we have projects
throughout the country. The projects
we
engineer vary from modifications of domes-
tic property, houses, small civil structures to
medium industrial buildings. Customer satis-
faction and descent engineering is our main
objective.
Up to date structural knowledge,
technology for structural analysis and infor-
mation technology are our major concerns.

Architektenburo ir.
G. Pronk bna designed a
building existing of an industrial hall and an
office. The building is situated on a develop-
ment area
Oudevaart-Zuid in
Warmen-
huizen (the
Netherlands).
Although
War-
menhuizen is just a small village, it has a rea-
sonable development area for regional
companies. This part of the area is in devel-
opment for the last few years. The local gov-
ernment is very keen on the appearances of
the buildings in this area.,
while they take
into account the limited budget of the
regional companies. The architect managed
to design a building according to the
requirements of the constituent and the
local government but still for a reasonable
budget.
The hall and the office building are two sep-
arate structures. Physically they are connect-
ed, but they are kept structurally undepend-
able. The rectangular structure of the hall is
made of steel frames
with a steel lining
facade.
The circular office is a combined masonry-
steel-concrete structure. The structure of the
office is designed for a future extra story. To
keep the partitioning of the building flexi-
ble, the first and second floor are supported
only at the edge and at the centre with a
single column. The first and second floor are
made of reinforced cast in place concrete.
The ground floor is made of prefabricated
pretensioned concrete elements. The larger
glass facades are provided with columns to
bear the floors above.
Building specifications
Industrial hall:
• Dimensions: length x
width: 20,00
m x
20,00 m, height: 6,40 m
• Floor: cast in place concrete, h=180 mm
with beams 350x400 mm at the edge
Office:
• Dimensions: diameter: 10,300 m, height:
7,40 m (without optional story)
• Ground floor: prefab pretensioned con-
crete elements on cast in place concrete
beams 350x400 mm
• First floor: cast in place concrete, h =
250 mm
• Second floor: cast in place concrete, h=
250 mm
Overall specifications:
• Steel: a total of 11.841 kg
• Concrete: 120 m³ cast in place
• Foundation: 106 prefabricated concrete
piles, pile tip level 14,75 m - N.A.P., pile
length 12,00 m
Used ESA-Prima Win modules
For the calculation of these structures
we
used
ESA-Prima
Win version
3.50.466.
Besides the base and language module the
following modulus have been used:
• 3D frame
• 3D shell
• Connection frame (EC3)
• Steelcode check (NEN 6770/6771)
• Dynamic document
The entire construction is modelled in ESA-
Prima Win. By using 3D frame as well as 3D
shell,
we were able to put all the structural
elements together.
However, the office structure and the hall
structure are only connected at the founda-
tion. But it was the best way to make a cal-
culation of the total concrete structure. The
following arguments were important mak-
ing the final decision about the structural
analysis and the used modules:
• Circular cast in place concrete floors of
the
office, supported
by
walls
and
columns
• Only one internal column as centre sup-
port of the floors
• Complete analysis of the foundation and
floors
• Accurate analysis of forces and deforma-
tions of the steel structure, including
influences of connections
Although it is not such a big problem to
model the complete structure in ESA-Prima
Win,
we are looking forward to a better
communication between the drawing and
