Thermae of Spa
The ‘Centre Thermal’ is located on top of the hill
“Annette et Lubin”, above the city of Spa.
The steel frame consists of concentrically and
eccentrically placed elliptical tubes which receive
the torsion and bending. Each ellipse rests on the
previous one by rectangles and tubular sections.
The whole entity is supported by columns which
are fixed on top with cables.
The structure becomes stable through the connec-
tions of the tubes. The specific connections are
modelled in a 3D-plate model to examine the
mechanics .
ESA-Prima Win software has been used as
calculation tool.
